The Mastectomy Bra..

Firstly what is a Mastectomy?

Now a days it is an unfortunate fact that many women suffer from breast diseases, especially cancer. Some of these conditions require the surgical removal of the breast or breasts, these procedures is called a Mastectomy.

Mastectomy bra:

After a mastectomy a patient may or may not choose to have re-constructive breast surgery. When a patient decides not to have re-constructive breast surgery, they may use a breast prosthesis to give a symmetrical look to their figure and not to draw attention to themselves. These prosthesis are generally silicone forms, as these mimic the natural shape and movement of breasts as closely as possible, other forms have been used but silicone has proven to be the best and most popular.

A mastectomy bra, is a very specially designed bra for use by women after surgery who wish to use the breast prosthesis forms. These bras have pouches sewn into each cup, the silicon form can be placed into either cups pouch. The bra holds the silicone form in a very natural position and due to the construction of the pouch it helps shape the silicon form to look like a breast would do naturally.

A good mastectomy bra will hold the silicon prosthesis in place at all times and for every occasion, from going to the mall, a night out or working out. There are a wide variety of styles and designs of mastectomy bras available and also available in different materials, so if you need a cotton sports bra or a lace/satin bra for a night out, you will have no problems finding them.
