Cosmetic Surgery, also known as the boob job, Breast augmentation; Breast implants; Implants - breast; and Mammaplasty is a surgical operation that usually involves a stay in a hospital or a clinic.

The usual method for Breast Augmentation involves a surgeon making a small incision on the underside of you breast, generally in the natural fold of your skin. Through this incision the surgeon can either remove fatty tissue for Breast Reductions or insert Breast Implants, generally silicon/saline based. Other techniques/variants on this procedure of breast augmentation, involve the incision been made under your arm or the surgeon may make the incision around the areola, dark nipple area. All these different breast augmentation procedures have the potential for leaving scars at the incision area and desensitizing of the breast. Breast augmentation also increases the chances that you will experience problems breastfeeding in the future.

Breast implants may be inserted directly behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or inserted into the outer layer of the chest wall muscles (submuscular). Depending on your procedure and positioning of the implants, it will have an effect on the following.

  • How much pain you have after the procedure
  • The appearance of your breast
  • The risk of the implant breaking or leaking in the future
  • Your future mammograms

Please ensure you discuss all of the above with your Surgeon who will be preforming the Breast augmentation..

Scars, what to expect?? ?? The scar for a standard breeast augmentation is often placed around the nipple, from the nipple to the natural crease under the breast and then along the crease of the breast. Various methods may use different scars. All surgery requires a scar and all scars take time to soften and fade. You will not see the final appearance of your scar until up to a year after surgery.

The scar is usually red and raised for the first month or two after your operation.

Which proceedure is right for you?

Your surgeon will to tell you which form of breast surgery is most suitable for you and will help you understand the risks.Only you can decide whether the operation is right for you. Your surgeon will help you achieve your aim. Although no surgeon can give a guarantee, cosmetic surgery should not be scheduled unless there is a good chance you will be pleased with the result. The final decision remains one that only you can make. The exact method of surgery is determined by the amount of loose skin you have in the breast.....
